NCJW-SA and Our Lawmakers
2021 Day on the Hill (Virtual)
Every legislative session, NCJW heads to Austin for A Day on the Hill to put our mission into action, speaking out to improve the quality of life for women, children and families and to safeguard individual rights and freedoms. Now more than ever Women’s rights and welfare are at stake. Due to COVID restrictions, the 2021 session was virtual, but effective!
Our priorities for the 2021 Texas Legislative session included:
Voters’ Right
Gun Safety
Women’s Reproductive Freedom
We cannot sit idly by and let the rights we have fought so hard for in the past be taken away. Now more than ever, our government needs to hear our voices. Join us next year as our NCJW TX members head to Austin again to meet with our Lawmakers.
Get Out the Vote Initiative
NCJW San Antonio has partnered with various organizations to launch our voter registration initiative. We have provided opportunities for our members to become Deputized Voter Registrars and are now qualified to register potential voters around the city for the upcoming election. Our priority is to work with senior citizens and marginalized communities to make voting accessible and easy. We will be sending postcards to encourage these voters to get to the polls. For seniors, we have worked with our partner organizations to make it easier for them to vote by providing simple instructions to help them get through the challenging task of requesting a Mail-in ballot for Texas. (Not an easy task! See our “Don’t get Flapped” section.) More details coming soon on this important initiative.
